其次是有關天象的知識和儀器。憑藉多年看天氣的經驗，造船師傅能根據天象預測天氣的變化。例如，可以通過看曆法知道漲潮的時間,而漲潮是把造好的船推下海的最佳時機。此外，澳門荔枝碗的造船師傅還能觀測星星、雲朵、風向、水流以及海中生物的異動來判斷天氣變化。但主要是看雲和曆法。除了經驗，澳門海事博物館也記載了澳門的造船師傅還能藉助一些設備去觀察氣候變化，如用水流計、羅庚、晴空計以及星圖等工具去判斷天氣的變化。
