As one of the most important components of immovable cultural heritage, architecture plays a role in reflecting local geographical environment, indigenous customs, and local wisdom on using and adapting nature. Since Macao is a significant Chinese and Western transportation fortress, which become a convergence point of important routes of various countries, the architecture in Macao becomes an outstanding case of an architectural ensemble, showing the encounter of Westerner and Chinese civilizations. As a city located in a lower latitude region, and with a subtropical monsoon climate, the buildings in Macao are often threatened by natural factors such as typhoons, storms, and seawater intrusion in the past, present and future. With the change of climate and increasing frequency of extreme weather, the buildings themselves will be damaged, thereby the evidence that witnessed the historical development of Macao have a higher possibility of being destroyed. To mitigate the impact of climate change on architecture, local communities use various practices such as designing specialized building structures, utilizing alternative building materials, strategically locating constructions, and implementing specific buildings for disaster warnings.The technical support for knowledge involved in applied practices has significantly increased nowadays and is expected to be implemented across various types of constructions and fields.​
